Daniel Kahneman was an Israeli-American psychologist whose research with Amos Tversky transformed the study of judgment under uncertainty. Their experiments showed that people rely on useful mental shortcuts that can also produce systematic errors, and that losses and gains are not evaluated symmetrically. Kahneman received the 2002 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for integrating psychological research into economics. Thinking, Fast and Slow introduces “System 1” for rapid, automatic processes and “System 2” for slower, effortful attention. These labels are not separate brain regions or fixed personality types; they organize patterns of thought for explanation. The book connects anchoring, availability, overconfidence, loss aversion, and the remembering self to experimental evidence.
