The book is presented in the form of a diary and spans a year as Elizabeth writes about her experiences as she learns how to garden.The Solitary Summer is another semi-autobiographical novel published a year after Elizabeth and Her German Garden. The book is also narrated in the form of a diary and centers around Elizabeth as she again tries to find solace in her garden during a lonely summer. The book is also notable for Elizabeth referring to her husband as the Man of Wrath.The Adventures of Elizabeth in Rugen is the third and final semi-autobiographical novel in the series. The book was published in 1904, a few years after von Arnim visited Rugen with her maid, a coachman, and a friend.Elizabeth von Arnim was a prominent British writer in the early 20th century. Born in Australia, von Arnim and her family moved to England when she was three years old. Elizabeth was married twice but both were very unhappy marriages which led to her concentrating more on writing. Some of von Arnim's best known books include The Enchanted April, Mr. Skeffington, and Elizabeth and Her German Garden.
