In this classic work, Descartes first defines what is known for certain, and then builds on it to what can be known. He differed from the later empiricists in that he believed people are not born with their minds as a blank slate, or tabula rasa, but are born with certain innate knowledge, including the knowledge of the existence of God and of the difference between right and wrong. This book is presented in its original Latin text, followed by the English text.
