Overview

A traveler in north central Massachusetts takes the wrong junction at the Aylesbury Pike junction, past Dean's Corners, he comes across a lonely and gloomy town. With the higher ground and the stone walls bordered with thistles, where they press more and more against the furrows of the dusty, winding road. Trees in the frequent forest belts appear too large, and weeds, brambles, and wild grasses attain a lushness not often found in populated regions. At the same time, the planted fields seem singularly scarce and barren; while the slightly scattered houses look surprisingly old, in the face of misery and ruin. Wilbur Whateley, the precocious and monstrous son of a lonely Dunwich family, preserves part of the heinous secret of the Necronomicon, the forbidden book. The secret cannot, must not, be revealed to men: the forces of evil survive and can be invoked. Once unleashed, the world will know its apocalypse. The Dunwich Horror is one of the most disturbing tales in horror literature.
