Sister Carrie is a novel by Theodore Dreiser about a youthful nation young lady who moves to the enormous city where she begins understanding her own American Dream, first as a courtesan to men that she sees as unrivaled, and later turning into a well known entertainer. It has been known as the "best of all American urban books".
