Set in late nineteenth-century Gibraltar, 'Luna Benamor' tells the story of Luna, a Gibraltarian Jewess, and Luis Aguirre, a young Spanish diplomat waiting for a steam packet to take him to Australia. Written in the 'costumbrist' style, the novel paints an intricate and very convincing portrait of late-Victorian life on the Rock. This version of the novel is in English and contains numerous explicatory footnotes and a specially written introduction.
