Overview

The book tells how a young Christopher Columbus watched the ships coming and going from the docks in Genoa and wondered what strange lands they visited. He listened to stories the sailors told and wondered if they were true. He was pretty sure some of them were not. He begins working on a ship as a cabin boy and befriends a talking gull named "See." Christopher learns all about maps, navigating and sailing ships. As an adult, he leads a voyage of discovery across the ocean, hoping to land in China. Instead he discovers the Americas.
