Overview

During the summer of 1980, Edinburgh Arts, under the guidance of Richard Demarco, chartered the Marques, a nineteenth century, 200-ton, three-masted barque, to make a circumnavigation of Britain. The journey was to start at Fowey, and was divided into nine stages. But my own journey was to take the boat from Mallaig to Wick on the fifth section, and then return by myself to Mallaig by bicycle. This book is about those two journeys.
