Electra and Other Plays

Based on the conviction that only translators who write poetry themselves can properly re-create the celebrated and timeless tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, the Greek Tragedy in New Translations series offers specially commissioned translations that go beyond the literal meaning of the Greek in order to evoke the poetry of the originals. The translations in this series are the result of collaborations between outstanding poets and prominent scholars. Each play is provided with full stage directions and accompanied by an informative introduction, extensive commentary, and a glossary of mythical and geographical references.
