I want so much to like this book because it’s by a Filipino author. But a few chapters in, I’m frustrated by the lack of character depth, dated vernacular, and surface-level storytelling. But i’ll still try. Maybe things get better eventually.

2010 election. One homosexual impersonator, Amapola, became "manananggal" and received a prophecy that she will save Philippines. The news messenger: Emil, a police who is a big fan of Nora. One of the challenging books that I have set my eyes on. Maraming nangyayari. Too many issues being mentioned. Relevant, still. I somehow felt like I'm not yet the target audience of this book. Still not finished reading it because it's too overwhelming for me. Props to Sir Ricky Lee, though. I felt like the book is written by another person. Will go back to reading it kapag kaya ko na ulit.
