"Warbirds" is a win-win book about a high school football team, the Abilene Eagles, its coach, Chuck Moser, and the historic 49-game winning streak compiled by the Eagles in 1954-57. For that achievement, the Eagles were named "Team of the Century" in Texas high school football. From newspaper files, Moser's documents library, and the author's first-person accounts, the streak is re-created in real time, game by game. With each victory, the book's real story emerges, of a coach who taught values and principles first, and X's and O's second.
