by Annie Besant
This short text is a transcription of a lecture given by Annie Besant- one of the foremost figures of Theosophy after the era of HP Blavatsky. It is not strictly dietary, but rather ethical in tone, and supports the concept of adopting vegetarianism on the basis of the brutish and uncivilized nature of slaughter, especially regarding the slaughterhouse itself and- oddly- those working therein. It may be of interest to note that vegetarianism- now at least not massively uncommon- in the time of Besant was extremely rare, and this type of "reformist" material was then considered particularly interesting and perhaps bizarre.
