by SMITH, ADAM
The Theory of Moral Sentiments, Adam Smith's debut publication, was released in 1759.

It served as the foundation for Smith's later works' ethical, philosophical, psychological, and methodological principles.

It establishes the psychological framework on which The Wealth of Nations would later be constructed. Smith, along with Hume and other prominent philosophers of the day, regarded "human nature" as a constant and unchanging datum from which social structures and social behavior could be inferred. In it, Smith outlined the principles of "human nature."
