The Demon: Oriental Tale

Mikhail Lermontov is a great Russian poet. "Demon" is his wonderful creation, like everything written by him. He had a premonition of his death in the Caucasus and died on the slope of the mount Mashuk in a duel, at the age of less than 27! His epic poem tells about a cherub expelled from paradise, who rushes through the expanses of the universe in the form of a demon, spreading crimes and evil. Seeing the Georgian princess Tamar, it seems to him that he fell in love with her. The demon contributes to the death of Tamar's fiancé and then tries to get closer to her. He declares his love for her and expects reciprocity. In the end, he destroys the princess - his kiss poisons her and Tamar dies. The golden-winged cherub lifts her soul to heaven. The demon tries to fight her off and take possession of her, but is defeated and again remains alone in the universe, devoid of love and mutual understanding.
