The twelve stories gathered in this book originate from the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould's classic 1869 collection, Curious Myths. John Matthews has chosen the stories for their worth and merit to the modern reader and has brought them up to date with his knowledge of the subject. Each story has an introductory essay providing the background, context and relevant historical or mythological origins. Baring-Gould's comments within each tale have been left untouched, as they provide a perceptive insight to a preserver of a rich heritage.
