John Glenarm, grandson of John Marshall Glenarm, has spent his father's inheritance on travel. He is set to inherit his grandfather's house in Indiana, but he must live in the house for a year without leaving in order for the inheritance to become permanent. Glenarm arrives in Indiana, feeling like he's been imprisoned in a rural no-man's-land. From the first night, things start happening to Glenarm. He meets Marian Devereaux, a young beauty who is also named in the will. The house is filled with secret passages, mysterious intruders and many unanswered questions.
