"Oh no, sir, it isn't; it is only cracked a little." "Yes, my boy; but it will not hold water. The porter will not allow you to pass with that. Look here, I have brought you another; throw that away, and take this." "No, sir, thank you; this will do. If mine was broken like the other boys', I would. The cracked part will not be seen; and I have carried it so far, that I have got to love it; and besides, I should be thought as bad as the other boys if I threw this away and took another. No, sir, thank you; I will go on and try." It was in vain the stranger pleaded with him. On he went, hugging his cracked pitcher. We will let them go on their journey whilst we see, dear children, what all this means to us. What is the use of pitchers? Why to hold water in, of course. Just so; and if you will read this very book of Revelation you will find in it a good deal about "the water of life," and Jesus tells us that this water of life may be in us so that we shall never thirst.
