Knowing that a new generation of Dark Jedi are being trained at the Shadow Academy, Luke Skywalker knows the New Republic needs all the fighters it can get. The young Jedi he is training need to build their lightsabers. This means each student must learn about the mysterious bond between Jedi and lightsaber which can result in growing stronger in the Force or tragedy.
