This edition of the Lady of the Lake blazes a new trail. It rejects the purely academic treatment of text and author for a personal, friendly spirit of communion with the folk and scenes that Scott describes. Mr. Aiton, perhaps because of his Scotch ancestry, has linked the pulse of the poem with the heart of every reader who revels in brave act or valiant sacrifice. A special feature is the unusual number of happily chosen illustrations. They provide a splendid supplement to Scott's wonderful word pictures and give the pupil a feeling of actual contact with the scene of the story.
