The king's daughter is beautiful, but proud and haughty. She pokes fun at all her suitors, which angers the king, who vows that she must marry the first beggar who comes to the door. The illustrations are by Maurice Sendak, who won the Caldecott Medal in 1964 for "Where the Wild Things Are".
