Jena Writings (Jenaer Schriften): (Bilingual English & German Edition)

A new 2023 translation of Hegel’s youthful writings and lectures while at Jena into modern American English from the original manuscripts. These documents put on display an eager Hegel wrestling with the basic questions of German Idealism and the legacy of the Enlightenment. He is attempting to get out of Kant's shadow and distinguish himself from contemporary Kantians, Fichte, and Schelling mostly (whom he knew personally from his time at the University of Tübingen). Here he begins to outline the basics of his entire philosophic project, and begins to talk about Geist as the super-sensuous unity of opposites to answer the Solipsistic materialism of modernity.<br/><br/>This is Volume I in the Complete Works of Hegel.<br/><br/>This series is the first English-language “Gesamtwerk” (complete systematic major works) of Hegel.
