Bernd Heinrich Wilhelm von Kleist (1777-1811) was a poet, dramatist, novelist and short story writer. A prestigious prize for German literature is named after him. This collection includes his most popular work, Das Kathchen von Heilbronn (1808), a poetic drama full of medieval bustle and mystery; Die Hermannsschlacht (1809), a dramatic work of anti-Napoleonic propaganda; and his Gesammelte Erzahlungen (Collected Short Stories).
