VI. 22. 65. referantur is jussive subjunctive in quasi-dependence on facito (Roby, § 1606). Do not say that ut is omitted: ut is not required. Though referantur was felt to depend on facito, in strict grammar there are two sentences: facito, "see to it"; referantur oxsa, "let my bones be brought back." It is an instance of parataxis (coordination) instead of syntaxis (subordination). Thus many Irishmen say, "Ask him, where is he going?" (parataxis), instead of "Ask him where he is going" (syntaxis). Contrast also "Be sure and tell him he must return at once" (parataxis), with "Be sure to tell him that he must return at once" (syntaxis). Similarly in Latin,-"Fremant omnes licet: dicam quod sentio" (Cic.) means strictly " Let them all grumble: I give them leave to: I will say what I think." Cane hoc dkai perhaps means strictly "Take care! you might say this" (potential subj. in quasi-depenaence); or else dicas is jussive, and the prefixed cane has the same effect of converting the command into a prohibition that ne has in ne hoc dicas. 67.
