Overview

Catherine Linton might be any small-town girl we know, except she's rather a better shot with a pistol. She has lost her parents in a mysterious 'accident', and her desire to uncover the person responsible engages our sympathy. Catherine thinks she knows everyone in the sleepy Southern town of Lowfield. She is society editor for the Lowfield Gazette, and she has a finger on the pulse of the town until she finds a body in a deserted shack, and discovers she has not known her town at all. Sheriff James Galton can forget his lifelong friendship with her father, and how he used to swing her in the air when she was small. Her friends and neighbours suddenly seem distant, but strangers reach out with unexpected offers of help when murder approaches her doorstep. She finds also that her relations with the black people of Lowfield change when her life is in danger. Dead Dog combines the best of mystery and suspense, with a dash of romance thrown in.
