Overview

Construction Products Regulation (or CPR) is with reference to the requirements for the UKCA (or NICA) Mark for “construction products”. From January 2021, the UK market does not require the CE Mark. The UK market will require the UKCA. Therefore, subject to your customer contract, you will only require a "factory production control" FPC quality control system. This does not mean you require EN 1090 certification; no, just an FPC audited by a UKAS "Approved Body".The legal reference for the UKCA Mark within the United Kingdom for the CPR is the Statutory Instrument - SI1620 - previously known as the Regulation (EU) No 305/2011*.*Note: From the 1st January 2021, the latter is no longer the legislative framework for the United Kingdom. The UKCA Mark (also read as NICA Mark) will replace the CE Mark from the 1st January 2021.The CPR requires that an “enterprise” implements and maintains “Factory Production Control” (or an FPC). The CPR requires the FPC “quality system” is to be audited by an “approved body”. Within the UK, a list of approved bodies will be provided by UKAS (the United Kingdom Accreditation Service). This publication is amended due to the issue of the NSSS (National Structural Steelwork Specification) 7th Edition for the “building construction” and of course the BS 1090-2: 2018 with reference to the “preferred welding” BS 3834 series of Standards. In addition and on the back of the BS 1090-2; 2018, this publication highlights the “common thinking” between many of the Approved Bodies. Common thinking in the sense of their respective understanding of the BS 1090 series.
