Lake Forest, Illinois, is a community known for remarkable architecture. Within this city's 16 square miles are hundreds of significant properties, many designed by architects and landscape designers famous in the Chicago area and internationally as well. This book highlights Lake Forest's five districts and more than 15 Landmarked buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These and several locally landmarked places help illustrate Lake Forest's distinguished planned, organized, designed, and preserved character, evolving since 1857. Architectural Lake Forest, a publication of the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation, succeeds the Guide to Lake Forest's National Register Historic Districts and Landmarks, 1994, which featured 80 sites in two districts. This book covers five districts and more than 260 representative locations that (1) meet in 2022 the Register's contributing 50-year age and other criteria, (2) are visible from the street, (3) are newly photographed and mapped, and (4) have concise captions.
