In 'An Introduction to Metaphysics' Bergson develops his conception of the two essential ways of knowledge about the reality. On the one hand is the analytical, the solid, and permanently defined, whereas on the other hand, the intuitive, the universal, and not definable. The static in categorizing science, therefore, can only grasp the relative, while only the intuition is capable of recognizing the essence of things.
