Roger Garaudy (1913–2012) was a French philosopher and politician whose writing moved through Marxism, political criticism, religion, and intercultural dialogue. Marxism in the Twentieth Century asks how a revolutionary tradition should respond to changed historical conditions rather than remain a fixed doctrine. The Crisis in Communism: the Turning-point of Socialism examines institutional and intellectual tensions within communist politics. Karl Marx, Evolution of His Thought follows the development of Marx's ideas instead of presenting them as a finished system. The Founding Myths of the Israeli Policy belongs to Garaudy's later and deeply controversial polemical work, which requires critical historical context. Marxism in the Twentieth Century provides the clearest view of his revisionist Marxist phase; Karl Marx, Evolution of His Thought offers a more focused philosophical study.
