Turkish economist, academic, and writer Erol Manisalı (1940–2022) concentrated on international economics and Turkey’s relations with Europe and its surrounding region. Cyprus: Yesterday and today gathers the historical, political, and economic dimensions of an issue that occupied a central place in his public writing. Rather than treating foreign policy separately from economic structures, Manisalı examined customs arrangements, regional power, and the pressures that global integration can place on national decision-making. The Cyprus volume gives a focused view of that method and of his concern with the region’s economic choices. His broader work widens the frame toward the European Union, globalization, and the place of the nation-state, linking regional policy to larger arguments about economic sovereignty.
